Vastu Symbols: Horse Shoe

HorseShoe: Vastu Remedy
From this post, I am starting another channel of Vastu in this blog - that of Vastu Symbols and Remedies. We start with the traditional Horseshoe and how to use it in Vastu.

Before elaborating on the use of Horseshoe as a Vastu remedy, let me narrate an anecdote about Dr. Neils Bohr, the renowned scientist and Noble laureate.

When Neils Bohr won the Nobel Prize for Atomic theory, a lot of journalists visited his place to interview him. After the meeting, when they were leaving, Bohr came out to see them off to the door of the house. One of the press man saw a horse shoe fixed on the top of the main door of the house. Unable to suppress his curiosity, he asked Dr. Bohr, "Sir, you are such a great scientist, and you believe in all this? Is there a science associated with all this?"

Dr. Bohr, whose mother it was who had placed the horse shoe on the door, replied, "I do not know the science behind this but one thing I can say - It works."

I do not know whether this anecdote is correct or not nevertheless it is interesting because, it talks about a dimension which is beyond the current understanding of science. There is more to life and experiences than what current science has understood.

Coming back to Horseshoe as a remedy in Vastu, Horseshoe is a traditional western symbol, used to stimulate good luck. In Vastu it is used to ward off the negative and evil energies which effect the house and its residents.

The horseshoe should be placed correctly for it to be auspicious. Its two ends should point upward and never downward. The entrance should be under it and the horse shoe should face outwards. In India and some other countries it is easier to get an original horseshoe. If you are not able to get an original one in your country please feel free to write to me.

Should the horseshoe be placed outside the main door or inside?

The basic objective is to ward off the negative energies coming from outside. Hence it should be placed outside.

I have never seen the effect of placing it inside so would not be able to comment on its ill effects. Logically speaking it should not be a problem, but you know these practices are beyond logic as they are beyond science. If you experience a problem just remove it - is the advice which I can give.

Also I am yet to see a piece of iron stolen, I have seen brass door handles being stolen but not iron. So you may once again consider placing it outside.

Dear sir,
We have read some literatures regarding Horseshoe. Some books mention that the both ends of the Horseshoe should be pointed down when placing it outside the house. But some places it is mentioned, the ends should point upwards. can you tell me what is the correct position of placing Horseshoe.

Regards

Suresh

Dear Friend

Please do not search for a horse but search for a horse shoe. It will be easier to find. I cannot tell where can you find it in Delhi.

I will suggest try in Old Delhi or Sabji Mandi, Chandni Chowk area where there are high chances of you finding it.

Should the horse shoe be fixed with ends pointing upwards, or the other way (i.e. ends pointing downwards)?

Dear Maa Upma,

Thank you for confirming the position of the horse-shoe! Can you please reply to my questions below:

* Is there a particular day on which the horse-shoe should be fixed on the main door (say a Saturday)?

* Should the horse shoe be fixed on the Door itself, or on the wall, above the door frame?
In some articles I read on the net, they say that it should be on the wall above the door, and to the left side. Is this position correct?

* Would position of the horseshoe (whether it should be above the door, on side of it etc) be dependent on where the entrance is? In my case, the main entrance (door) is on East side (I mean when you enter, you face west), also this door is in North-East corner of the house.
Kindly advise!

Best regards,
Anand

Dear Ma Upma

The existing comments have been very useful.
Can you please confirm as to how is the horseshoe to be fixed over the front door. If it is to be nailed, then how many nails or does it not matter..

Jaya

Thanks Jaya for your comments and interest in my blog.

The details of placing are in the post itself. Number of nails depend on the number of holes. Generally 3 nails should be sufficient
