Saturn commonly known as Shani in Vedic Astrology, is considered to be the “JUDGE” in the planetary kingdom who gives the result of karmas to every creature. In Vastu, Saturn is the Lord of West direction. Saturn is also the Lord of all machinery and gains utmost significance in modern world where machines perform most of the work.
Vedic Astrology Significance of Saturn


As per Vedic Astrology, the legs (from hip to toe) represent planet Saturn. So it can be said the one cannot stand properly without the grace of Saturn.

Saturn is black in color, physically handicapped, cold, dry, lethargic and an elderly planet but his vision is sharp and bright. He not only has direct vision but also retrospective. His anniversary falls on 24th May 2009 this year.

In the horoscope of a person Saturn takes about two and half years to pass through each sign. While analyzing one’s chart through Moon sign if Saturn’s transit through your expenses, self and family houses it is known as the phase of seven and half years of “Sade saati”. Generally people are scared by the name of Sade sati because in this period Saturn as the judge gives its judgment which is followed by every planet and you feel the result like mental stress, unexpected expenses, flood of tiring journeys, accidental injuries, emotional set backs,

transfer to new place, disclosure of secrets, loans and financial loss.


A well placed Saturn in the birth chart can bestow excellent power, prestige, name and fame and a badly placed Saturn can devastate you. Its metal is iron, color is blue, gem is blue sapphire.

Remedies to appease Saturn

  1. To appease lord Saturn light a lamp in mustard oil in your prayer room or in west direction of drawing room.
  2. Donate black cloth and leather articiles like bags, coat or footwear to old age home or directly to old person.
  3. Donate wheat or black pulse( urad) to the needy.
  4. Offer roti (bread) to a dog everyday or on Saturdays.
  5. Place Mahamritunjaya yantra in the worship area and chant its mantra daily.
  6. In the west direction of store room place a bowl filled with mustard oil.
  7. If your entrance is west facing tie five Chinese gold coin in yellow ribbion on the inside of your entrance door.
  8. Offer grains to crows
