Breathe Easy : Breathe Deeply

With this post, I start a series of articles on breathing. Right breathing practice is beneficial not only in Yoga, exercising but also to enhance the effectiveness of meditation or self-hypnosis sessions you undertake.

In this post I am only cover some basics of breathing. It is no way related to any of the systems I write about in this blog but it is definitely linked to the age old Indian techniques of breathing. Indian scriptures are full of testaments on the importance and techniques for breathing.
Breathe Easy

Modern science says that, breathing oxygenates every cell of the body from brain to vital organs. Without sufficient oxygen, the body becomes susceptible to health problems. Breathing raises the levels of oxygen in the blood, promotes health in may ways from stimulating the digestive process to improving fitness and mental performance.

When I get angry, the most effective technique I have found which aids in subsiding anger is to concentrate on the inhale and exhale of air (concentrate on breathing) for a few minutes and it works wonders for me.
Breathe Easy

I know of many trainers and presenters, who take few deep breaths to reduce anxiety before heading for an important presentation or session. Once they calm the jittery nerves by inhaling and exhaling deeply a few times, the task at hand becomes easy like breeze. They have also shared that in between the presentation when they become wound up again they just breathe deeply.

In the next post I will cover the right technique of breathing.

You are so correct Raven. In Yoga it is believed that your life is defined in terms of the number of breaths. So the more time you take in a breath cycle the better. What it means is that one should not take shallow breaths but deep breaths.

Cheers
