Ganesha in Vastu

September 22nd 2007 09:06
Category: Vastu
I saw a lot of people searching for the phrase ‘Ganesha in Vastu’ hence thought of sharing my knowledge and experience on the use of Ganesha figurines and paintings in Vastu. What better time to write on Ganesha in Vastu than the 10 day long Ganpati festival ending on 25th September, 2007

Ganesha is a symbol of prosperity and profound knowledge and is believed to be destroyer of all obstacles which come in our way in our undertakings.

Ganesha should be installed on the top of the entrance of the house to deflect all negative energies and to remove the Vastu defects of wrong position of the entrance. However, when you install a Ganesha idol on the entrance above the door frame, you must ensure that they are installed in pair and back to back on both sides. It is believed that Ganesha is always accompanied by his two wives Riddhi (Prosperity) and Siddhi (Knowledge) and poverty resides behind his back. If you just install one Ganesha Idol facing outside at the entrance its back will have your abode and you do not want poverty inside the house. Hence it is recommended to install Ganapati, back to back at the entrance.

Similarly, when you install an idol or painting in the house, place it next to an external wall and not next to a wall that separates two rooms of the house. Ganesha can face the North direction as he is happy if he is facing North which is the abode of his father – Lord Shiva.

Most importantly you should take care that Ganesha is not made of broken pieces of wood, leaves, either in idol or in a painting. The first figure with this post shows Ganesha made of disjoint leaves, which should not be used. The second figure shows Lord Ganesha made of leaves but joined with one another. Avoid abstract paintings of Ganesha. Like all abstract paintings, they are not recommended as per Vastu.

One last advise on this topic; do not install Ganesha with the trunk to His right.

Non-hindus can also use Lord Ganesha as a Vastu cure. However, you must ensure that He is properly revered and respected by all members of the family, kept clean and in a clean surrounding.

God Bless!!

The main door of my house opens to North i.e a person enters my house facing to South. In this case should i Install Ganesha on both side, i.e outside facing North and inside facing south. Do you suggest specific Ganesha frame.
Some one told me me earlier that if your main door is facing South, they should install Ganesha above door frame inside facing north and lord Hanuman above door frame outside facing south.

Thank you

Ma Upma, One of my loved once recently got married and moved to a rental house. Main door is located at Southeast corner facing East direction. The house is like train; first room is living room then next comes kitchen. Finally bedroom and rest room is on the north side of the living room. I would appreciate your advices on this situation, because they are not living best of their life.

Where did you get your information about Ganesha's trunk facing His right is not good? You must be credible in what you say. Are you a Ganesha devotee in the first place?

Comment by MaaUpma

March 29th 2008 15:15
Dear Vivek

You can go ahead and do that it will not be a problem.

Dear Anonymous

Ganesha's trunk facing right is definitely not incorrect. Only such a figurine should be placed in temples where it is worshipped daily.

Ganesha figurine which has trunk facing right when placed in the home should be worshipped daily without fail. If you can do it go ahead. As you seem to be a Ganesha devotee you will agree with this logic.

Hello Ma Upma:

I offer to Lord Shiva on Mondays. And, have a wooden statue of Lord Ganesha that I am trying to figure out where to place. My apartment is located on the north-east corner of the building. And, my door opens facing east. How should I position my Lord Ganesha statue ?

Also, I currently have my image of Lord Shiva facing north, with his lingam pointing directly to him. Would you happen to know if this is correct ?

Thanks for the help.

I read the above and have clarifications on the Ganesha Idol/pictures.

Our house is facing north and till recently had
a. one ganesh facing west
b. three ganesh idols facing north
c. few ganesh pictures facing east.
Each of them is not at the extreme end of the house fixed to the wall or in a shelf, however in many places in the middle of the house

One of my friends suggested the following :
a. The ganesha facing west is now being changed to face north and there are no rooms behind his back.
b. three ganesh idols is now being packed and to kept only during dussehra for the doll festival (famous in the southern part of india)
c. few ganesha pictures - they are being removed and with thanksgiving being put in running water
d. we propose to put two ganesha's back to back at the entrance (as is similarly expressed by you).
e. there was a ganesha in the office whose back was the room of the promoer of the co. now I have changed it and is now facing east. the back is now - leads to the open air outisde
Please advise me on the above if it is ok and if you wish to make any changes/or offer anysuggestions.

Thanks

You can place Shiva facing South and Ganesh facing North. Shivaling can be in between the two. No problem.

You can follow all the suggestions given by a friend. Always remember when you do anything related to religion it should be done with full trust. Seeking suggestion from many people on the same topic will dilute the trust and will not give the desired results.

Thank you for the answer, MaaUpma. I have another question if you do not mind. As mentioned I worship Lord Shiva. I know the day most people worship him is Monday. But on my readings by a pundit, I was told the best day to worship him for me, was on Saturday.

I guess my question is would you agree with this view. I am new to offering, and seeking advice that I am doing it correctly.

Thank you.

Dear Selena

There can be two reasons why you worship Lord Shiva

1) to worship HIm as a devotee with/without anything expected in return. In this case you can worship Him daily and more so on Monday.

2) Worship Him for astrological reasons. The malefic effects of Planet Saturn are believed to be suppressed if you worship Lord Shiva on Saturdays.

My suggestion would be to worship Him daily and if not possible, worship Him specially on Mondays and Saturdays.

Hello.. .your posts have been very informative and clears all the doubts. I was reading about Ganesha's trunk right side should not be kept inside the house. We have one idol at home whose trunk is right side. What should we do now as this idol has been in our house for last 4 years.
Also please tell how many idols we can keep in our house. Thanks Rajneesh

Comment by MaaUpma

September 1st 2008 11:58
Dear Rajneesh

If you are not facing any problem in life then you may let the Ganesha with its trunk on right remain in the house. Else you can immerse it in a pond, well or river.

Ganesha with its trunk towards its heart is kept at homes because we live a material life and Ganesha with its trunk on its left is said to be closer to His monther, Parvati who is a Goddess of material world. While Ganesha with his trunk on right is said to be closer to his Father, Shiva who is the ultimate in spiritualism.

Hence Ganesha with right trunk is kept in temple which is a pious place and worhipped daily.

You can place as many Ganesha idols as possible.

Only when you are placing a Ganesha Idol in your Pooja then it should be placed such that it faces South or West such that when you are praying you face the North or East.

Regarding Ganesha with the trunk on the right I have already mentioned the reason you should not place in the house.

As my Anonymous friend has elaborated in his/her comment below yours rest is upto your trust.

There is no problem in sticking posters of God and Goddess in the house.

There should be only one shiv ling in the house. Place all others in a temple near your house or immerse it in a lake or well.

Ganesha and Lakshmi idols can be more than one and do not worry on that

Dear Shiv

Generally Ganesha idols placed in home should be of size less than a human being else they are better placed in temple in the larger than life forms.

You can place it in the west wall facing east or if possible on the South wall facing North

You will have to describe the goddess sitting on his lap. In most parts of India - Riddhi and Siddhi (Wealth and Knowledge) are considered to be be the consorts of Lord Ganesha and their idols are placed along with Ganesha. In certain parts Goddess Lakshmi is considered her sister and placed along with Him.

Goddess Lakshmi is depicted holding Lotus in two of her arms. So if the diety has two lotus flowers consider it to be Goddess Lakshmi.

I suggest you take a proper Vastu consultancy for the house. If you are keen you can send me the layouts on my email ID and I take it forward from there.

Placing Ganesha idols on the two sides of the gate does not remove the vastu dosh. You should place a convex Bagua Mirror on the main entrance (on the wall just above the main door) and also back to back Ganesha idols as suggested.

Dear Ashi

Generally these towers are high transmission towers. About 14 years back we were purchasing a plot of land for constructing a house near such a tower. At that time I did not know astrology and vastu.

However, when my husband consulted his professor of Electricity he informed that such towers are high voltage transmission lines and carry electricity at 22000 to 44000 KW. The problem is that they create an electromagnetic field around them which definitely effect the electrical and electronic equipments in the house. Moreover, this field may effect the mental health of those who are occuying the house.

Since you have already bought the flat I do not think you can do much at this time. I will however, suggest you a Vastu recommendation. Please send me the layout of the house along with the directions on my Email ID mentioned in the text next to my photo above and we will take it forward from there.

Most every house in our family has always had a Laxmi photo inside the house, above the door, facing into the house. Would you know about this?

Per your suggestions, we should have a Ganesh photo inside the door and outside the door area. So in that case, would I put Ganesh ji's photo next to Laxmi Ma?

Or should I just put the two photos of Ganesh ji inside and outside? Is there Vastu on putting Laxmi Ma photos at the door?

Thank you very much.

I have a Ganesha idol and I have placed it near the entrance of my house facing inside the house. My house is south facing means anyone enters my house faces north. On the other side of the wall where I have placed the Gamesha idol is not accessible as it is a flat on 2nd floor. Please advice if this location is allright or shall I change it.

Dear Sachin

Ganesha should not be placed when it is facing the tioilet. Kindly remove it.

Place a Vastu Dosh Nivarana Yantra (which you will find at any shop selling Pooja Material) and paste it just above the Main door.

I have a question for a friend of mine. She has a framed Lord Ganesha picture, that she would like to hang in her apartment, Her door faces North, but the apartment itself is located on the East side of our building. Can you let me now what direction is best to hang this picture frame. ?

Thanks so much.

I will not be able to comment just by this statement. Can you send the photograph of Ganpati taken in a manner that I can understand its position with reference to the staircase. You can Email me on my Email ID.

For the sake of simplicity just concentrate on the direction of the entrance and not on the position of the apartment with reference to the building

You can place the idols in such a way that Goddess Lakshmi is on the right of Lord Ganesha. This means that when you see from your perspective, Lakhsmi should be on your left and Ganesha on your right

Hello,

I live in Toronto - Canada.
Entrance door of my house is facing East, sits on the west.

Main floor:
Our kitchen is in north.
Dining room is north west.

Upstairs:
Master bedroom is south west
Second bedroom is on the south side
Third bedroom is on the east side.

I would like to convert one bedroom to a pooja room,
which one would be ideal pooja room.
Also as the kitchen is in the north, and I have no other option to relocate this, what is remedy I should do to null the negative effects of kitchen being in the north side of the house.
I have placed Kandrishti Ganesha on my South Wall facing North.

Looking forward to your advise.

I recently bought a duplex house and apparently this house doesn't have pooja room. I plan to have a pooja room on the second floor with minor changes. I have read articles on vastu that pooja room should be constructed only on the ground floor. I don't understand reason why vastu insists that way, because if there is a pooja room on the ground floor and people walking on the second floor in duplex house isn't that disrespectful? Your thoughts

You can have the Pooja Room on First/Second/Thrid Floor or any other floor.

It can be on Ground Floor also and does not become disrespectful when people are waltking on the floor above it.

I recently found that I have a Right-Trunk Ganesh idol for last 4 years and now I remember that one of my friend gave it to me as a gift. I read your articles and I am so blessed to find and read such an informative article.
Should I give this idol back to my friend and ask him to put it in temple or I should do it myself. I am asking this because it may help my friend if at all any kind of negative energy he might be receiving by performing this act ( intentionally or un-intentionally). Dear Ma Upma,

While searching the web, we came upon your interesting blogs, which have partly answered many of our queries on placement of Lord Ganesha.

Our problem is, whatever is our earnings, which is very good, we are always short of funds.

My wife is an avid Ganesh collector. Our entrance door is towards North East and the door faces east exactly. We have placed one small Ganesha idol on the outside of the door, His back facing inwards.

The collection of idols are placed in the passage way, each of them facing east. Their backs face inwards, towards the wall seperating this place from the kitchen

You have recommended the idols to be placed facing North. The place available on the South side, but the backs would then be towards the wall seperating a toilet.

We would ver much appreciate your help.

With Warm Regards,

Dear Gautam

First about the Ganesha Idol on the entrance. The most important thing which I have written on this post is to place Ganesha on the Entrance Back-to-Back. Place two Ganesha idol one above the entrance door in the wall above it and one exactly behind it if you are unable to understand this please see the post Ganesha in Vastu: Video

Do not worry about Ganesha facing south and just do the above on the entrance of the house.

Secondly let us come to the problem of Having a great income but always finding yourself short of funds. Please note that for this a detailed consultation will be required. If you are interested please write to me at astroupma@gmail.com and I will be glad to help

hi MaaUpma,

I am ruchir here. I had a small question with respect to my office desk.

In our office we have cubicle desks, so we can actually face 3 directions on the same desk. Currently, I am sitting in a desk which is facing south and my back is to the door, which i think is surely wrong (and maybe that is why I have been struggling in my career). I do have a ganesha and hanumanji statue on my desk facing north.

Now, recently there are 2 vacant desks for me to change to. Both face North east in the centre of the desk. let me describe each desk.

The first one has its back towards the glass wall, but is diagonal to the entrance to the office. The only problem i think is that there is a circular beam which runs close to the desk.

The second one, faces north east at the centre and is facing a wall.

Which do you think is a better desk?

Pranam ma Upma,

Your ganesha at entrance is good and like all others
I still have a query, the figurenes need to be the same at back to back, and other minor queries,Please advise

1. Currently at the entrance above my door I have single base with a Laxmi (centre) Ganesha (my left) Saraswati (my right) while facing, Is that fine and do I have to have a similar figurene on the inside wall above the door.

Do I need to change it to ONLY GANESHA figurine on both sides. or can I now only fix single Ganesha statue inside and let the triple gods statue remain outside

2. I also have a huge Lalbaugcha Raja picture frame in the living room and the picture is facing south, I feel that when I am leaving home and enetring home we get to see the Picture for positiveness. (AS you have mentioned Ganesha is happy facing North)

3. I have an illuminated waterfall frame at the living room wall next to the door and that is facing North, Is that OKAY?

4. Also I have a fish tank with 2 white sharks and 2 pearl guramis at the southeast corner of the living room next to the door(the door is south facing means when I leave home it is South). Is the fish tank at a good location.

I know you have loads of questions to answer for various people , but it will be kind and blessing if if you give me the answers for all the queries as above,

With best regards

Dear Uday

As you must be aware from the top of this page that personalized consultation is a paid service. However, I will answer few of your questions for the benefit of all my readers

1. The two figurines may not be identical. In fact the figurine in the front should be smaller than the one on the inside wall.

2. Ideally you should swap the Lalbaugcha Ganesha and the waterfall painting (from the description above), but since you have written that the purpose is to see Him when entering and exiting the house, you may as well let the two remain where they are.

3. Ideally place a single Ganesha figurine above the main entrance on the outside wall and move the other figurines inside.

Should you want to undertake a Vastu Consultation, I can visit your home in Mumbai and give you a detailed analysis

Ganesha statue below the staircase is not appropriate. On the entracne place the Ganesha figurines back to back. You can also use His photo instead of a figurine. Also if they are not of the same size, place the bigger one on the inside wall.

I have a North facing entrance. Initially I had put a Ganesha idol frame on top of my door. Everyone told me that I should be putting a Ganesha frame on the inner side (so as to make Ganesha back to back) or remove the frame on the top of my door.
I have been told by many that the Ganapati idol should not face South. Somehow the thought is too deep in my mind .. so I removed the frame from the top of door entrance.

Is it okay if I place the Ganesha frame on the wall in my house facing the door and on top of my door. That way I can have the ganesha not facing south. But is that correct ?

Also, is it possible to understand why a Ganesha idol cannot face South or why there should be a Ganesha back to back on the entrance of the door ?

On another topic, would like to know if I can place a Ganesh full figurine on the inside of the main door and a Ganesh 'face' on the outside of the main door.

DearMa Upma,

I read both these statements in this commentary.

"Ganesha can face the North direction as he is happy if he is facing North which is the abode of his father – Lord Shiva."
Aug 3, 2008 - "You can place it such that when you worship Him you are facing the North or East"

I am a bit confused, because these statements convey opposite meanings.

Dear Sameer

When you are placing Lord Ganesha in your Prayer room or on the altar place it in such a way that you face North or East while praying.

When you are placing Lord Ganesha figurine or painting anywhere other than the Pooja (Prayer Room/place) preferably place it such that it is facing North.

Hope that clarifies

I did not believe in Vaastu or any such rituals, till I had my personal experience. I am an ivy league educated guy with great professional network. Since we moved to our bigger new home in USA (most homes are not Vaastu compliant), there has been obstacle from minor to major task, appliances go bad(TV, AC etc.), been laid off from job twice since moving to new home 2 year ago. That's when I found out my house entrance faces south, all toilets are in wrong places etc. I can not sell the house in this down market. Is there anyway I can mitigate these problems. Ganesha Idol is one, next I heard keeping Fish bowl also helps Is this true? Thanks so much for your time and effort.

Dear Ma Upma,
I have recently received a small gold Lord Ganesha idol. Although I do not worship the Hindi Idols, I have much respect for them. I wanted to ask you where to place the Lord Ganesha in my bedroom. Please help. The door to my room is on the east wall, the west wall of my room has a window facing the ocean, the south wall has nothing behind it and my north wall has a bathroom and closet, behind the bathroom and closet is my living room. My bedroom has a crystal grid too. Thank you so much for your time Ma Upma.

My suggestion will be not to place Lord Ganesha figurine in your bedroom. Living room may be a better option. In the living room place it next to the East or North wall. You may also place it next to the South wall

Ma Upma,

Ive read the entire blog of Q&A here. Got a really insight into things i never knew before.

I ve read again n again the improtance of back-to-back Ganesha idols with trunk to His left.

I am left with the below doubts:

- Is there any other specification to be kept in mind while choosing Ganesha idols for the front & inside entrance?
- Like color of idol, material of idol (wood, clay, marble, metal, brass etc)?
- Mudra of idol (like what should Ganesha be holding?, his hands should be blessing or in meditation postion?)

Any other advise you might want to give?

Regards,
Nidhi Gupta.

There are no futher considerations when choosing the Ganesha Idol. Just take care that is a full figurine and not just the trunk or upper half as you get nowadays. It can be of Wood or Resin or porcelein.

Yes you can place the Ganesh near the Iron gate. There is no problem in placing the Pooja Room in the North Wall

Dear Piya

I need to understand the layout before suggesting

Dear Priyanka

Great. You are from my city where I stayed earlier.

It is OK to place Ganesha on the door itself if there is no other option.

Whether it can be a cure for the wrong entrance or not can be determined by studying the layout of your house in more details. Please write to me.

I have been advised not to keep multiple murtis of Ganesha in the house, is that true? I have an idol in each house, with the back towards the outer wall. Do I need to take them all off?

Comment by MaaUpma

Dear Anjali

I personally have kept multiple idols of Lord Ganesha in my house and have not faced any problem for the last several years.

Have trust in the Lord and He will not harm you. Just take care that none of the Idols are placed in bedrooms or near to toilets.

Placing the idol with back toucing the outer wall is considered good.

Dear Sachin

Personalized consultation are generally charged ones.

Here are some general answers

Please read my blog for two posts on "Vastu for Prayer Room" - Click 1 and Click 2.

The Pooja Ghar should have a pyramidical dome atop it and rest is for you to decide on its aesthetics.

A pooja Ghar made of wood (as light as possible) will be good

Just keep the Shva Linga made of Brass in your pooja and donate the others in a temple or submerge them in water on a Monday.

God Bless!!

Dear Ma, Good Day To You !
Thanks for your quick reply. And Ma thanks for your service to all who need an advice over vastu. Thanks for spreading awareness of vastu among peoples.
Ma my questions is:
The brass shiva linga i have in my pooja ghar is very old, i think its from ancestral's.. and i will describe you its structure... the murti is about 2 by 2 inches base and one inch tall.... its a total 4 pieces shiva linga, at the base (1st part) it has one strip with three holes, one centre hole to accomodate shiva linga (now facing North Direction) and one side hole for naag devta which is normally we see on shiva's head.. like that and the other hole was for nandi, but that lord shiva's nandi is not there in that (its lost while we doing nirmalya visarjana). so only two pieces on that strip are there third is lost... also shiva linga's base is directing in North direction and where as the Naag devta is facing in West direction.... also as i said we have another two shiva lingas made of typical special stone black in colour... so plsss suggest whether to keep the brass one ( because i did not mention the above information in my previous queries, so with this detailed information,) Ma pls guide me further. and which direction should we keep the shiva linga.... and can we keep a murti having both the shiva linga and his nandi in pooja ghar.

Ma Hope you got my question. Please Reply. Eagerly waiting for reply.

Thanking You in Advance. And Heartily Thanks for providing such a useful help to people.

Respected Maa Upma,
I have a laminated frame of Lord Siddhivinayak (right sided trunk) at home and I am not very consistent in my prayers. earlier i used to chant Atharvashirsh 2 times a day, morning and evening, but now I chant only on sankashti chaturthy. Things are not going very well these days. After reading so much about right sided trunk I am confused whether or not to continue with the picture at home. I can place in a temple also but can I just cover it and keep it in my closet?
Kindly suggest.

The reason for things not going so well these days may or not be linked with Keeping Right Sided Trunk Ganesha and may require a detailed analysis of your horoscope.

Keeping it in a closet may not be such a great idea

what should i do ????
whats the exact direction for temple and for idols facing ?
one more thing ...
i have heard that Lord Ganesha should never have His back inside the house..does it apply for every God ?
should i arrange my temple in such a way that every idol's face inside home and back outside the home..
or may i arrange my temple exactly in the center of the house. if yes, then how i should put my Lord Ganehsa ?

Greetings dear Ma

Thank you for all the comments. For the sake of interest may I ask the following for your general views and comments. I know that the topic is Ganesha in Vastu, but please allow this for the sake of discussion and knowledge.
I have often wondered whether there is any significant relationship between Ganesha, Buddha and the Swastika interms of symbolism at least. Ganesha is associated with the Moolathara, the source of meditation and spiritual awakening. Buddha is of course associated with meditation and spiritual enlightenment. The swastika is a mystical symbol often seen with both Ganesha and Buddha images, sculptures and the like. Also I have read comments on the orientation of the swastika - that it should be clockwise (the Nazi symbol happens to be counter clockwise but that's a different story I suppose) but I have seen been swastika displayed in anti clockwise orientation in many Chinese, Taiwanese and Japanese temples, both Taoist and Buddhist. Not sure whether that is because of the lack of knowledge, inadvertence or if its deliberate.

Care to give your views and comments, Ma? Thank You

Your text goes here madam,

as u may be aware, houses in mumbai are small sized and i as a governemnt offcier landed up in a north facing flat having a hall, kithcen(sw)toilets(se),galler y(w).my flat is on 2nd floor,
our building has a main east facing exit, which opens into a main north south heavily trafficked road. Opp side of the road is a ayurvedic hospital cum reasrch centre cum hostel.back side of the building is also a road which is almost quite, and which I can see from my gallery cum small room, in the western sector of my house.
Our toilets are in south east, and bathroom in south, and kitchen in south west.
so u see, we had to place our pooja temple in the kitchen, where our gods face east .we cook food facing east and pray facing west.the wash basin in the kitchen is in south-east sector of kitchen.
we have a hall in which we enter facing south(that is the house is north facing), where we also dine & watch t.v. facing north, where outsiders first come and sit facing east and west and in night we sleep in same room with legs in the north direction.
we have constanlty faced trouble from our neighbours of our houses NE sector and those residing exactly below our house.Apart from that delayed marriage problem, and all.
looking for a g8 comapny.
We have no option of changing structures of the room, as it is government owned. 80% of the governemt and psu employees stay in government owned houses with permant stuructres.

Dear Sharmas

The current position of the temple as described by y ou is alright and you need not change it.

It is believed that poverty resides behind the idol of Lord Ganesha hence it is recommended to place back to back Ganesha on the entrance. If your temple is touching the outer wall of the hall this should not be a problem. It does not apply to other Gods.

Do not move the temple at the center of the house.

Thank you very much for your kind reply dear upma maa..
but i could not get the exact answers for my two questions..
1 ) If i place my mandir in the center of the house, how should i place Lord Ganesha in that mandir (in the center of the house ). as no mandir is complete without Lord Ganesha ..
2 ) Idols facing South West direction is okay or not as i heard that idols should face west and people should face east at home mandir and vice versa at temples.
I am sorry.
As i have seen that vaastu experts never reply to ordinary people's queries. as they are always looking for money..
BUT YOU ARE THE FIRST ONE WHO REPLY AND WHO WANTS PEOPLE'S PROSPERITY RATHER THAN MONEY..
I AM SO TOUCHED AND GRATEFUL TO YOU FOR THIS KIND ACT..
now i got two short specific question to save your time.
1 ) Today i changed my mandir.. now idols facing west and me facing east, but there is a toilet wall at the back of mandir but i have created a distance of 2 -3 inches between mandir and toilet wall..is it okay now ?
2 ) do u know any general vastu tips to get pregnant as we are trying hard but no success so far..

Dear Sharmas

I have already said that the earlier position of temple with God facing SW and you facing NE while praying is good. Changing it to West facing and you facing East is also good except that it is now near to the toilet wall. I will suggest change it back to the previoud position..

I have also already said that you should not place the temple in the Center. I will need to see the layout of the house through a personal consultation if you really want to do it.

I only reply to queries which are beneficial to my readers in general and for specific queries I suggest a personal consultation which is a paiid service.

Not getting a proper job or home may not necessarily be due to the pendant. The pendant may be helping him in preenting something worse happening. One never knows.

Dear Ma’am,

In my residence the previous owners had extended the drawing room with the balcony (by removing the door/ partition) and the balcony is on the lower level. The direction of this balcony is between SW and West;

1) Would you recommend me leveling the balcony with the drawing room level?
2) Also is there any other Simple solution besides leveling the balcony?

Am doing this because have still not found stability in my work life and am unemployed. I read somewhere on the internet that the SW should not be on the lower level as it causes ill luck.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Dear Maa,

I have gone through all your posts relating to Ganesha and I am so thankful to you for providing so much information for general readers. I too have a general question which I hope you will answer in this forum.

Does placing of Ganesha idol/picture have any bearing on the health of inmates and relation between husband and wife besides bringing prosperity? I wish to improve the health of my family and my relation with my husband and seek your advice in how to go about it. As per your general advice I will begin with placing Ganesh idol back to back on the entrance of my home which is north-west facing.

Thank you in advance

Dear Mayura

Though Ganesha idols placed back to back brings general well being in the house, it is not a miracle cure of all problems.

I suggest you place them and see the results. When placing just recite your intentions of placing them when you are installing them on the door.

In case you want you can go through a personalized consultation and write to me in an email.

Our home's entrance is east facing with a long corridor diving the two halves of the house. Just by the entrance, on the north east side is the living room. What would you recommend as the best direction to place Ganeshji's idol?

Dear Maa,

Thanks for you prompt reply, will do as recommended.

On more questions please; it something that has been bothering me and I would sincerely appreciate your advice.

The kitchen of our new home is in the southwest corner of the house and the stove is such that I would need to face the south while cooking, There are no doors to the kitchen i.e it is open plan. My friend told me that this was an inauspicious direction for th kicthen per vastuu. There is nothing we can do to change the layout, is there any way to reduce or counterbalance the dosha if any.

Dear Ma Upma

My question is regarding which room to be used as master bedroom.

I have a flat in Bangalore, placed in western block of the currently 3 block apartment set in 'C' shape (which will be incrreased in future by 7 more buildings covering these 3 buildings in outer semicircle form), such that it has a main road in the north of the block/apartment.

It has north(N), south(S), east(E) and west(W) corners and walls parallel to the lines joining the SE, EN, NW & WS directions . My main door is in E-SE quadrant corner, and opens facing line joining north and east.

I have 2 bedrooms R1 & R2. Both lie along the wall parallel to line joining W&S directions. Both have attached bathrooms adjacent to each other between them such that the rooms fall in SW-NW quadrant (R1) and SW-SE (R2)quadrants. The SW axis passes through these bathrooms.

R1 has attached bathroom opeing towards NW, a window on wall parallel to line joining SW directions, a door and a window opeing into balcony towards NW. It also has a cupboard on SE wall

R2 has attached bathrrom opeing towards SE and window on wall parallel to line joining SW directions.. It has cupboard on NE wall.

As per vaastu SW room shoud be master bedroom. Now as there is no specific southwest corner in flat and both the rooms fall between S & W directions, which one should preferably be used as master bedroom?

Am unable to find an answer to this in the books available in market...

Please help me out...

best regards

Dear Partha

Place two Ganesha pictures back to back as advised in the post.

Dear SPS

I think R2 should be appropriate based on your description. If one of them is bigger than choose the bigger room of the two.

Thank you so much... R1 is a bigger room with bigger window and balcony... designed to be master bedroom by the builder... shall we go ahead with that room as the master bedroom and let the room R2 be the guest room..

Please confirm for going ahead with R1 as master bedroom as R2 will then be used as guest room which in our case will be almost permanently occupied by someone or other..

Ma Upma Namastye,
I just came to know about Ganesha with right side trunk and little bit worried and start searching.
I am not follower of Ganesha...Last year one of my friend gave me one marble made Ganesha's face statue with right side trunk which is beautiful .I put that in my small place of puja. I use do to pray everyday but not Ganesha.
Now i realize that since last year Nov.2008 my time is totaly bad. I can say health, wealth, love and family all are down 100% to 25%.
As on today i dont want keep that Statue at home.
Please please advice what to do with that statue

Dear Ashwin

You can place it in a temple or submerge it in water.

Also please note that there was a major change in the position of planets in November last year and your present situation can be due to this. It is unlikely that all these problems are due to a Ganesha Statue.

In case you need an astrological consultation please feel free to write to me on my Email address

You can keep as many idols in the room as you want. Only the purity of the room should be maintained. You or your mates should not be drinking alcohol or indulging in sexual activity in the room.

If you are not facing any problem after the incident there is little cause of worry. Sometimes this becomes an indication of negative energies being warded off by the divine forces.

For any more analysis I need to do some calculations which will be a paid service.

Comment by Rakesh

January 10th 2010 03:14
We live in Hong Kong and recently moved into a new apartment. We have a pooja room in the house and idols are kept facing west and while we pray we face the east. Outside the pooja room is a passage and toilet on the other side. which means pooja room and tollet are seperated by a approx 3 feet passage. Also in the pooja room the back of the idols face the said passage. is this ok as in many of your response it is not advised to have the back of idols (ganesha) facing inside the house.
We also have many ganesha idol and photos in the house. 2 photos at the entrance passage facing the shoe rack, 1 idol in the living room show case back facing outside. multiple idol and photos in the pooja itself including 3 right trunked sidhivinayak photos. We do light the lamp and pray twice a day.
Can you pls advise if all of the above is ok or any changes to be made
thanks in advance

Hello,

I have been given two Ganesh figurines over the past three years as gift. One is very large and one is small. I don't know if I believe in Ganesh? all I know is God sends messages through many forms. the small Ganesh is in my office with it's back to the window and the larger statue is in the landing of my stairs. when one enters my house the respected Ganesh statue is facing towards them, but they are inside my house the stairs are on the left and the Ganesh is at the landing facing them. I am completely confused on how I should be placing Ganesh in my house. I have a very little home and if I put the statue in any other room I fear other visitors will not respect it.

Please clarify if the position is correct, Ganesh is facing inside my house but on the left of anyone who enters?

Cant say for sure if any negative things are happening but things are not going right.
Could you please suggest what should we do with the wall hanging. Should we just remove and place in our cabinets . We have never worshipped that .
