Celebrate Diwali – Invite Wealth

Diwali – the festival of lights is celebrated in India by Hindus and other Indian communities every year. The growing ethnic and cultural diversity of Hindu religion across the globe provides people from across the world and of different ethnicity to participate in the celebrations and rituals of Diwali festival with their Indian friends.

Most Diwali celebrations around the world focus on family and friends and it is a time to reflect on the past year and envision the brighter future. Diwali (also called Deepawali) has the same significance as Christmas. Like Christmas, Diwali is celebrated by meeting all family members and friends, performing special prayers and rituals, exchanging gifts and sweets and most importantly by decorating the house with lights and lighted lamps.

One key aspect of the festival of Diwali is the special invitation to Goddess Lakshmi (The Goddess of Wealth) to visit the devotee’s home. This is extended by lighting the house with light and candle decorations, lighting crackers and sparklers and performing a special prayer to seek her blessings.

For Non-Hindus, I suggest you use these days to invite Wealth and prosperity to your home. I understand you will not be able to relate to Goddess Lakshmi or perform special prayers to please Her but you can always invite Wealth and Prosperity – We all need wealth.

Here is how you can follow the rituals of Diwali to invite wealth. I am only citing the ones which are religion independent.

Pre – Diwali

1. Clean your house. Remove all clutter from the house.
2. If possible have the house freshly painted or whitewashed.
3. Hang a door hanging on the main door of the house.

On Diwali Day (9th November 2007) evening

1. Light the house with several lighted diyas (lamps) or candles. Put candles on the boundary wall, one each in all the rooms (take care when placing it as it should not be near clothes, curtains or any other material of the house which can catch fire easily and also out of reach of infants and kids).
2. Fire crackers and sparklers to enliven your mood (be cautious of environmental and noise pollution guidelines)
3. Pray to your God and recite the following intention: “On this Diwali, the festival of light, I am inviting wealth and prosperity into my house. My home is filled with riches, happiness and prosperity. The arrival of wealth into my house has solved all our problems and we are living happily and harmoniously together. We are using this new found wealth for the welfare of our family and society where we live.”

Yeah Kendra. Like we bathe regularly we should also clean the space where we live such that it can breathe easily and positive energy flows in it...thereby benefitting us.

Take care
