Be Careful when decorating with Abstract Art

Abstract art is considered to be difficult to paint and also sells at a premium in Art Exhibitions and auctions. Though it may be tempting to decorate your living room with an abstract to show to visitors your rich taste and affordability, it is important to understand that such a painting may have a negative influence on the environment of the house and should be best avoided.
A search on Abstract Art on About.com results in the following extract on the topic.
"Of all the arts, abstract painting is the most difficult. It demands that you know how to draw well, that you have a heightened sensitivity for composition and for colours, and that you be a true poet. This last is essential." -- Wassily Kandinsky.
In its purest form in Western art, an abstract art is one without a recognisable subject, one which doesn't relate to anything external or try to "look like" something. Instead the colour and form (and often the materials and support) are the subject of the abstract painting. It's completely non-objective or non-representational.
Also generally classified with abstract art are figurative abstractions and paintings which represent things that aren't visual, such an emotion, sound, or spiritual experience.
Since abstract art will more often than not depict emotions it is important to ask yourself the following questions:
What emotions do the painting evoke?
What is the title of the painting and how is this influencing what I see?
Does the painting makes you confused?
Are the colors used very bright and hurting to the eyes?
Are the lines too pointed and angled?
If the answer to any of these is negative please remove the painting from the house.
Many times, abstract arts denote, poverty, starvation, loneliness, hunger, violence, devastation and such negative emotions. Such emotions definitely do not have any place in your abode. As an example, I have taken a painting from Really Long Link which depicts the devastation caused by Tsunami. Clearly a negative emotion to be avoided in the house
God Bless You!!
